On the weekend, Leah and I had a chance to speak at the Northern Voice Conference about Bongo, our in-the-works film project. If you’re interested in the talk, you can see a loose transcription including slides here on the Giant Ant Media blog.
Here’s a preview that we put together to give you all a taste of the project.

Dude, you just might be on the cusp of film making greatness. I can see these kids getting some exposure, a chance to come state-side, then just like JT, one of them is going to go solo and leave the others to wallow in forgotten dreams, and then when his career peters out 2 years later, you get to do a follow-up that juxtaposes an American hip-hop star that burned out too quickly against his friends (still in Africa) that he started out with and he left behind in poverty and destitution…

@CT - great idea man, but how many espressos did you have today? *smiles*
@Jay - when are you expecting to launch Bongo? How will it be distributed? It would be great to have it entered in our film festival here in Minneapolis/St. Paul in June (www.solsticefilmfest.org) if you are interested. I’m not one of the organizers but I am a film enthusiast and would be happy to get some contact details for you if you’re interested.

@justin When we launch is pretty tied to post production funding right now. We have a huge amount of footage that needs translation which is quite expensive. The idea is to produce a 10-12 part web series that is a bit more candid re: our experience of being there, and then a feature length doc in which we aren’t characters. The ideal route would be to do the festival circuit and then find a broadcast deal at the end of the festival run. The web series would really benefit from a corporate sponsor, and might be a good way for us to raise the money to finish the film.
The goal is to have a proper trailer cut by late March that we can begin to shop around.
